Transferring your number from one phone company to another is referred to as local number portability, or number porting. It allows you to keep your existing phone number when relocating home, office, or changing phone company.

Transferring your number to us

Transferring your phone number (“Porting”) to MOVOX is a seamless process. There are different timeframes and number porting fees depending on the service and the amount of numbers to be transferred. With MOVOX you can make multiple simultaneous calls using the one phone number, this means you only need to transfer the phone numbers that people call you on.

If you want to transfer your number to MOVOX:

  • Do not disconnect your service with your current phone company as you cannot port your number if it has been disconnected.
  • Contact MOVOX to request a port. MOVOX will then contact your current phone company to arrange the port.
  • Your existing carrier may charge cancellation and porting away fees. It’s best to refer to your existing plans’ Critical Information Summary to verify. These can be found on existing phone companies’ website.

Additional information about transferring your phone number to MOVOX including; important conditions, your obligations to prepare the number before transfer and rejection charges are available in our Customer Terms and our service plans’ Critical Information Summaries which can be found on this website.

Avoid rejection charges

Fees and charges may apply when porting your number from one phone company to another, these may include:

  • an early termination fee if you break your contract with your current phone company
  • outstanding call charges with your current phone company
  • a porting fee, which may be charged by your current or new phone company
  • your current phone company cannot refuse to port your number if you owe them money for any outstanding balance on your account;
  • Port Rejection Charges if your Porting Application is rejected by the losing carrier. The reasons and applicable charges for Port Rejections are detailed in our Critical Information Summaries which can be found on this website; and
  • If a Porting Application is rejected you will be charged the applicable number porting fee to resubmit the Port Application.

Keeping your number when relocating

This is called ‘location portability’ and is possible as long as we are prepared to offer a service on your number at the new location. You should contact MOVOX to confirm whether we can provide a service on your number at your new location. If your new premises is located outside the normal geographic area for that number, we may offer you a service with an out-of-area number.

Porting out-of-area local numbers

Phone companies can supply customers with a telephone number outside its normal geographic area. For example, a customer who lives in Sydney may have a Melbourne number (03) 9XXX XXXX. Customers with out-of-area numbers may not be able to port their number to another phone company because some phone companies won’t accept the out-of-area number. If a phone company offers you an out-of-area number, they are obliged to notify you that you may not be able to port the number to another phone company in the future.
